Reincarnation

Question: Reincarnation seems to be a dispute and came more from kabbalistic sources post talmudic. The only reference I find to the Gilgul is whether Eliyahu is a Gilgul of Pinchas (Sanhedrin 106) or there was a Billam Gilgul ( Bava Metzia 104). Both of these are disputed and in Eliyahu's case we learn its the same person and Pinchas merely never died. Ditto for yourself if you died yet returned (or so to say a person is reinstated/never died). Reincarnation seems to be different and seems to be post Talmudic. Contemporary books of people recounting overwhelming evidence of reincarnation, can you explain/explore the subject? Is the soul single or facets, then at the end when there is resurrection the common question is which carnation is the person restored as.
