Dear Rabbi Anava: I heard your shiur about why good people suffer. And you mentioned about a person being given a certain amount of time in this world  and certain sparks to elevate etc. But if that is so, what is the point of Rosh Hashanah where we pray each year for renewal of life etc? How does Rosh Hashanah fit into whatever is predetermined before we are even born?

Shalom,   Although there are predetermined paths in our life We still pray to walk those paths.   Prayer is like running to catch a train our actions are our prayers and rosh ha shana is choosing our train station and path in life.   So We effectively pray to rise above our current situation.   Best Wishes  R.Yosef Karpman
