If we accept the idea that everything that Gd does to/for us is the very best thing for us, than what is the point of praying for hard things in our lives to go away? If those hard things are to help us be the best possible people we can, and they are really "kulo tov", than what are we personally praying for? I'm really working hard to accept my lot in life, and therefore I'm having a hard time with this idea in prayer right now.

Shalom,   The most misunderstood aspect of prayer is that all prayer isn’t the same. 1-All our actions are prayer. 2-Although we might supplicate for something we might not necessarily be ready to receive  it. 3-Sometimes the things we think we want are actually to our detriment. 4-Since the creator is pure goodness our similarity/dissimilarity of spiritual goodness in action decides if we can receive the blessings we seek.  So if we are truly spiritually benefiting our environment with our activities then we have a vessel to receive the blessings we seek.   Best Wishes  R.Yosef Karpman
